Lighter, more integrated, and incredibly fast, the new Epic 9 fuses the efficiency of the World Cup with the capability of the Epic 8. Featuring a frame weighing just 1,589g, it is the lightest full-suspension bike ever created to dominate every course, from technical Short Tracks to grueling marathons. The XC revolution is here, and it is unprecedented.
The new Specialized Epic 9 represents a radical shift in the brand's strategy, unifying the entire XC lineup into a single FACT 12m carbon frame that sets a new category record for lightness (1,589g for the S-Works frameset). The design evolves by merging the sleek aesthetics of the previous World Cup with the 120mm travel of the Epic 8, effectively eliminating the need for a hardtail. The primary innovation lies in the drastic reduction of internal suspension friction, cut by 11%, ensuring consistent smoothness even under high lateral loads.
The kinematics have been refined by lowering the leverage ratio in the sag zone to maximize pedaling support, while maintaining a progressive curve at the end of the stroke to handle the violent impacts of modern XCO tracks. The RockShox Flight Attendant system, featuring a specific Specialized Ride Dynamics tune, electronically manages three positions (Wide Open, Magic Middle, Sprint-on-Lock), analyzing power and terrain data to adapt instantaneously without cables. Regarding integration, the Epic 9 introduces fully internal cable routing through the headset across the entire range and moves away from the internal SWAT compartment in favor of a modular external SWAT system to save precious structural weight. The geometry remains aggressive yet stable, with a 66.4° head tube angle and a slightly higher bottom bracket (adjustable via flip-chip) to improve clearance over obstacles. With the S-Works Ultralight LTD build, the complete bike tips the scales at just 8.5 kg, making the Epic 9 not just a racing tool, but the new technological benchmark for global off-road cycling.
