The Shimano Dura-Ace WH-R9370-C36-TL carbon road wheels are designed for climbing and routes with frequent changes of pace. Their 36 mm rim depth combines low weight with aerodynamic efficiency, while Shimano claims a 1,172 g weight for the complete pair. A dedicated layout uses 18 carbon spokes at the front and 21 at the rear, paired with serviceable cup-and-cone hubs and rear Direct Engagement. The 23 mm internal rim width, hooked tubeless construction and design focus on 28-30C tires complete a responsive wheelset built for acceleration and precise power transfer.
The Shimano Dura-Ace WH-R9370-C36-TL wheelset is the shallow-profile option in Shimano's new generation of carbon road racing wheels. Developed for dynamic riding, particularly on climbs, the C36 prioritizes fast acceleration and a precise response as gradients and pace change. Its 36 mm carbon rim combines a lightweight structure with an aerodynamically refined shape, making it suitable for riders who value climbing performance without overlooking efficiency on faster roads.
Shimano quotes a complete wheelset weight of 1,172 g, consisting of 523 g for the front and 649 g for the rear. That is 178 g less than the previous WH-R9270-C36 wheelset. The reduction comes from the revised rim structure, dedicated hub engineering and use of carbon spokes. The wheel-specific spoke pattern features 18 spokes at the front and 21 at the rear, selected to reduce overall mass while maintaining the stiffness needed for efficient power transfer during hard efforts.
Aerodynamics remain part of the C36 design despite the relatively shallow rim. Shimano reports more than two million rim-shape simulations and a claimed 7% aerodynamic improvement over the previous model. This makes the C36 a wheelset intended not only for steep ascents and sharp changes in pace, but also for maintaining speed as the road opens up. Aero-profile carbon spokes contribute to the balance of low weight, stiffness and racing efficiency.
The 23 mm internal rim width was developed with 28-30C tires in mind, with Shimano aiming to reduce rolling resistance while preserving tire stiffness. Hooked tubeless rims offer broad tire compatibility. Dura-Ace hubs use adjustable, serviceable cup-and-cone bearings for smooth operation and accurate setup. At the rear, Direct Engagement is designed to deliver an immediate response as the rider applies power. Center Lock disc-brake mounts and 12 mm E-THRU thru-axles complete the specification.
